Calderdale LGBT+ residents and supporters gathered at Shibden Hall today to demand that the Reform run council flies the Pride Flag there. It is the historic home of diarist Anne Lister, famously known as “Gentleman Jack” and the “first modern lesbian”.
Sarah Courtney, Labour Councillor for Hebden Bridge and Todmorden East shared the above video of the demo on social media, saying:
“Fabulous afternoon in Halifax with lots of lovely people, all asking our Council leader to reconsider the flying of a Pride flag at Shibden Park.
Over a hundred of us gathered by the lake and walked up to Shibden Hall at the event organised only a few days ago.
Well done all involved!
Thanks to Aaron Wise and Emm for pics and vids, and to Kate Dearden MP for supporting us, and to Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow for coming and singing Gentleman Jack.
Brilliant!”
Sarah has also launched a fundraiser to purchase Pride flags to be flown across Calderdale – details here: Raise the Rainbow.
