Our councillors were honoured to attend today’s special Freedom Parade in Halifax, marking 20 years since the formation of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
It was wonderful to see the Regiment in full ceremonial dress alongside military bands, cadets and veterans, before the parade concluded with a special service at Halifax Minster. A proud occasion celebrating service, dedication and the strong links between our armed forces and local communities.
On this 82nd anniversary of D-Day, the occasion carried even greater significance as we remember the courage, sacrifice and determination of all those who took part in the Normandy landings and the campaign to liberate Europe from fascism.
Today we honour the servicemen and women who fought for freedom and democracy, and remember those who never came home. Their legacy continues to remind us of the importance of standing up for peace, liberty and international cooperation.
