Statement from the Labour Group on The Shay
We recognise the strength of feeling surrounding the future of the Shay. As a vital community asset at the heart of Halifax, everyone connected to the stadium cares deeply about what happens next.
The original decision to progress the sale was taken in good faith, based on the information and assurances presented to Cabinet at the time. The actions of the new Reform administration have since led to Ken Davy withdrawing from the purchase.
With the sale now halted, fans deserve clarity. They’re asking the same questions we are:
- What are Reform’s plans?
- Can they guarantee the future of the stadium?
- At a time of severe financial pressures on local government, how will they secure funding?
Stopping one proposal is not enough. The administration must now provide answers and set out a clear, credible vision for what comes next.
