We recognise the depth of what we have and feel its an important step to build on that further, from our incredible heritage and historic places like Borough Market and the Town Hall, to the creativity happening every day in our communities, culture is woven into the story of our town.
Halifax’s stunning architecture and landscapes have become backdrops for major TV and film productions, bringing national attention to our borough. But the real strength of culture in Calderdale isn’t just the places we have, it’s the people who bring them to life.
Culture here brings people together. It creates pride in where we live, strengthens our communities and inspires the next generation to see that there are real opportunities for them right here in their own hometown, they dont need to move away they can and do succeed here!
That’s why we’re proud to be bidding for Halifax to become the UK’s first Town of Culture, building on the incredible legacy of CultureDale and celebrating everything that makes our borough such a special place.

“This bid is about recognising what we already have and building on that strong foundation celebrating our identity and creating even more opportunities for our communities to thrive.”
