Calderdale has been highlighted nationally as a place that could end homelessness , a huge recognition of the work happening here to support people with some of the most complex needs.
The article by The Observer shines a light on the partnership approach in Calderdale – councils, housing providers, health services and charities working together to make sure people have a safe place to live, and the right support around them.
This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about long-term solutions, dignity, and treating housing as a foundation for rebuilding lives. There’s still more to do, but it’s encouraging to see Calderdale recognised as a place that’s leading the way.
Since July 2024, Calderdale Council’s work with Crisis on the Built for Zero approach has seen:
* 34% drop in the number of households in temporary accommodation.
* 37% decrease in the number of children in temporary accommodation.
* Across Yorkshire overall, numbers have risen (Leeds up 69%, Bradford up 25%), but in Calderdale they are down 24%.
* Calderdale’s spending on B&B accommodation has fallen by £2.18m , a 79% reduction.

Our teams are always working hard, reaching out to partner organisations like Crisis to help make Calderdale a place where everyone has a safe place to sleep regardless of your circumstances”
