Work will begin soon on a £1.2 million retrofit pilot scheme in Boothtown, helping to make older terraced homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to heat.
The project at Woodside Crescent will see 22 homes benefit from insulation and ventilation improvements. Calderdale is one of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s pilot areas, helping to shape how retrofit schemes can be rolled out more widely across the region.
This WYCA trial is part of the wider Labour government commitment to climate investment that delivers real, everyday benefits cutting carbon emissions while tackling high fuel costs for homeowners and tenants living in ‘hard-to-heat’ homes.
Cllr Scott Patient, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Housing, said: “This scheme shows how national investment, regional leadership through WYCA and local delivery can work together. We know how we need to reduce carbon, but just as importantly for those who are part of this and future work, it means warmer homes and lower energy bills for our residents.”
With around half of Calderdale’s homes over 100 years old, many households face high heating costs. Labour is clear that climate action must also support people with the cost of living and help with growing costs.
Cllr Thornham, Ward Councillor, added: “This investment is really welcome in Boothtown. It will make a genuine difference to residents by improving their homes, making them warmer and making their fuel bills cheaper. It will also help us achieve our climate goals, which is a step in the right direction.”
