Following the recent motion brought by the Calderdale Labour Group and fully supportedcross party , we’re pleased to introduce Cllr Rivron as Calderdale’s VAWG Advocate ( Violence Against Women and Girls )
Christmas is a time of joy and connection for many, but we also recognise that it can be a period of heightened risk, isolation and harm for people affected by domestic abuse. That reality is why Labour councillors pushed for stronger leadership, visibility and accountability on this issue.
Cllr Rivron said: “Domestic abuse doesn’t stop at Christmas. For some people, the pressures of this time of year can increase control, fear and isolation. As Domestic Violence Champion, I will work to ensure survivors’ experiences are considered in the local work as well as recognising campaigns. I will ensure that support is well known, along with the ways help can be sought, both during the festive period and throughout the year.”

“This motion was reflective of Labour, protecting those in our community who need it. We are really pleased that Cllr Rivron is taking on the role, following her previous work leading a detailed review into domestic abuse; that work gives her a good foundation into really understanding some of the local challenges and of course she’s already been able to build positive relationships with partners who support this important work in Calderdale, and we recognise how important those positive relationships are for our residents to get the best support and outcomes.”
